Well, as per my knowledge, External Connector License is not required when you import data to Dynamics CRM. You just use a user license with approperiate access to import data to Dynamics CRM. Exterbal Connector is required when you are moving CRM data to some otherdatabase synchronously or displaying CRM data to public.

Can you clear something for me,

I have a newsletter that people subscribe to on a CMS system that's built in to our website (mysql db) We have just deployed CRM 4.0, so I took the data from the mysql and exported to CSV and imported to CRM- is there a way to automate this WITHOUT an external connector license?

Well, if your application is using one of the CRMr to access and edit data then its ok and no need for External connector license. But if you application is exposing data to public or not users of crm then you will have to go for external connector license.

Even if you are creating a service that is synchronous and migrating data from crm database to your custom database, still you need an external connector license. For only services those who are not synchronous can transfer crm data to custom database for customer portals and service management.

Hi Ayaz,

You said that any application that interacts with CRM requires an external connector license but there have been times that I've created applications windows as well as web that by accessing CRM's web service accesses and edits CRM's data without worrying about the connector license and stuff.
Is something missing here? I guess, the information of the requirement of a connector license for accessing CRM's database discussed in this forum incomplete. What say?

well any application accesing data(create, update, select, delete) from crm needs external connector license.

you can simply add web service reference and create web service object to fetch complete frame work api.

if you still faces problem contact me at ayaz.ahmad@hotmail.com

I need to create a .NET windows App which will need to interact with CRM 3.0 web service.

Question:
1. Do i need external connector for this?
2. Any sample application on how to do this out there?

Thanks,
Koko
